Materialogic is committed to adopting sustainable business practices that reduce our impact on the environment. Here is a brief summary of our current activities.
Consumable Resources
All materials used in office and process applications are recycled or are sent to a recycler rather than sent to the landfill, such as paper, toner cartridges, CDs, batteries, copiers, printers, computers, etc.
Facilities
Paperless Processing
RF scanners and readers are used whenever possible to accomplish warehouse activities supporting our movement to paperless warehouse operations.
Packaging and Handling Supplies
We support environmentally friendly packaging materials made from 100% recycled pulp material, and actively re-use old cartons where permissible.
We promote the use of EnviroFoam™, a 100% recycled EPS foam resin engineered for use in molding applications for fragile shipments requiring padded filler. Wooden pallets are also recycled.
Recycling
Every effort is made to recycle client material housed in Materialogic facilities, including paper and durable goods. All obsolete items are reviewed to
ensure that they are handled in an environmentally correct manner. If permitted, food items are donated to local charities.
Utilities
Where permissible programmable thermostats that adjust temperatures during off use periods control the HVAC systems in Materialogic facilities
(except in climate controlled food storage areas where a constant must be maintained).
Lighting
Office remodeling and warehouse lighting retrofit programs will incorporate the use of high efficiency fluorescent lighting fixtures.
Smoking
All Materialogic facilities are smoke free environments.
Ecological Conservation Programs
Responsible Forestry
Our teams of seasoned print professionals help our clients implement environmentally sound green printing initiatives for print collateral. From design to distribution we suggest and deliver print products and strategies to reduce paper consumption and promote electronic delivery methods.
Our print products include these certifications:
Forest Stewardship Council - www.fscus.org
An international nonprofit organization created in 1993 whose mission is "to promote environmentally viable management of the world's forests."
Forestry operations that are sustainability-certified by the FSC and have their timber tracked through the supply chain can then carry the FSC eco-label.
Consumers may then be better informed and have the choice to buy more sustainable timber products.
Sustainable Forestry Initiative - www.sfiprogram.org
A forestry industry group, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is based on the premise that responsible environmental behavior and sound business decisions
can coexist. SFI program participants practice sustainable forestry on all the lands they manage. They also influence millions of additional acres through the
training of loggers and foresters in best management practices and landowner outreach programs.
Carbon Offsets
The airplanes and trucks that deliver packages shipped by our clients use a lot of energy. Burning of these fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, this in turn contributes to global warming. Materialogic has estimated that a typical shipment causes over 2 pounds of carbon dioxide to be released into the atmosphere. With millions of packages moving around the country every year, this can be bad news for the planet. Materialogic now supports a green shipping initiative to mitigate this impact through the purchase of carbon offsets.
How The Program Works
Clients wishing to support a green shipping initiative, completely administered by Materialogic, contribute a specified amount per package to purchase carbon
offset certificates, thereby creating a carbon neutral logistics option. These offsets are legally regulated and tracked by ten state governments through the Regional
Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), the first mandatory cap on carbon dioxide emissions in the United States. We have chosen to work with Village Green because of their
innovative work in bringing greater transparency and accountability to the carbon offset market.
